Quercetin: Key for Stronger Immune System?

COVID-19

What is COVID-19?

According to the World Health Organization, Coronavirus disease commonly called COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered Coronavirus.

COVID-19 Symptoms

Symptoms of COVID-19 can range from mild illness to pneumonia. Some people will recover easily, and others may get very sick very quickly. People with Coronavirus may experience symptoms such as: fever, respiratory symptoms (coughing, sore throat, shortness of breath). Other symptoms can include runny nose, headache, muscle or joint pains, nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, loss of sense of smell, altered sense of taste, loss of appetite and fatigue.

COVID-19 Treatment

Over 4.71 million people worldwide have tested positive for COVID-19, 1.73 million recovered and over 315,000 deaths around the world and the numbers are continuously growing daily. All of us are in desperate need of a safe and effective treatment for COVID-19. Scientists around the world are in a race against time to find a cure. Thankfully, there are many working on a vaccine right now.

Here are the emerging studies:

1. Gilead’s Remdesivir

Remdesivir is an antiviral that is given by intravenous infusion in the hospital. This brand-new drug is being tested in carefully controlled environments. It was previously shown to have some effect against SARS, MERS, and Ebola in cell and animal models. In recent studies,Remdesivir prevented human cells from being infected with SARS-CoV-2 (the virus that causes COVID-19).

2. Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine

Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine are two medications that have been used for decades to treat malaria and autoimmune conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and lupus. A few small studies suggest that it may also help treat hospitalized patients with mild cases of COVID-19, while other studies showed that hydroxychloroquine did not make a difference. More vigorous studies are needed to confirm the efficacy of these drugs against COVID-19.

Quercetin Dihydrate

Another study has emerged about the use of natural Quercetin in fighting against COVID-19. Earlier scientists have started to research Quercetin for its antiviral properties and potential effects for Covid-19. Quercetin is a pigment found in many fruits, vegetables and plants. You can get Quercetin through a balanced diet or as a food supplement. Foods and drinks that contain Quercetin include berries, apples, citrus fruits, kale, tomatoes, onions, buckwheat, red wine, and black tea. An easy way to ensure a good dose is consumed each day is to take it a a dietary supplement.

Quercetin treatment for COVID-19

Besides anti-inflammatory, anti-mutagens, and anti-cancer-causing properties, Quercetin is considered to produce an antiviral effect and the ability to control major cell enzyme functions. Quercetin is considered to have the potential to act against the novel coronavirus and here are the mechanisms that prove its potential:

Prevention from ACE 2 binding

Coronavirus uses a surface receptor to get into body and in order to produce more virus. Therefore, preventing it from binding to the receptor means the virus can't get into the body to replicate. A computer modelling study has shown that Quercetin, similarly to other compounds, may block the novel coronavirus from entering cells.

mTOR Modulation

Quercetin can also act as a nutritional stimulator. This means that it challenges the replication of the virus.

The virus weakening

Other studies have suggested that Quercetin has antiviral activity against HIV-luc/SARS, with very low cytotoxicity. Quercetin has been shown to inhibit influenza infection with a broad spectrum of strains, with half-maximal inhibitory concentration. A 2016 study indicates that Quercetin causing inhibitory activity in the early stage of influenza infection may be a future therapeutic option to create safe, effective and affordable natural products for the treatment and prophylaxis of Influenza virus.

Natural Means of Boosting Immunity

Most over-the-counter medications only treat the symptoms of viral infections; most don’t actually help the immune system fight the infection. Natural dietary supplements are one of the affordable and effective ways to boost your and your family's immune system, especially during these challenging times.

With Natural Supplements like BoostCeuticals Quercetin, it can provide anti-inflammatory effects and naturally aid the body's ability to support a healthy immune system.

When shopping for supplements, it’s important to remember that not all are created equal. Talk to your doctor before starting a new supplement. Your doctor can help you choose the right product and dose as well as help you avoid any potential medication side effects. Also always choose the right immune boost by choosing non-gmo and no extra additives all- natural products.
