Which foods are immune boosting?

Blueberries - Full of antioxidants and flavonoids which protect the body from cell damage. The Antioxidants protect the body from free radicals which contribute to aging and diseases. Blueberries are also a good source of Vitamin C, Vitamin K, and Manganese. Vitamin C helps repair tissues and heal wounds; vitamin K helps with blood clotting and bone health; and manganese is a mineral that helps with brain function.

Banana - Bananas contain potassium which is a mineral that helps body functions like normal water balance, blood pressure, nerve impulses, and muscle contractions. They are also a good source of vitamin B6, which helps regulate the mood and can't be created by the body on its own. Bananas also contain vitamin C, manganese and copper.

Spinach - Spinach contains vitamin A, C, and K. It also contains folic acid, iron, and calcium. Vitamin A is beneficial to eye health and vision. Folic acid helps tissue growth and is especially beneficial for pregnant women. Iron gives the body's tissues more oxygen. Calcium is important for bone health. For optimal calcium absorption, be sure to eat foods that are rich of vitamin D in the day as well.

Ginger - This is a key ingredient in the Immune Boosting Spiced Berry Smoothie Recipe. Ginger is anti-inflammatory and has been used as medicine throughout history. It is known to help treat nausea and morning sickness. Ginger contains vitamin B3, B6, and C. It also contains iron, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, and folate. Ginger also helps lower blood sugar and fight off germs.

Tahini - This is a great source of manganese and phosphorus which contribute to bone health. It's possible that tahini has antibacterial properties as a result of the antioxidants. Tahini is a great source of healthy fats to help keep you energized. In addition to that, it's an excellent source of protein.

Lemon - An excellent source of vitamin C, helps boost metabolism, and aids digestion. Lemon juice also contains a smaller amount of folate and potassium. The peel may also have anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties

Cayenne - Full of vitamin A, C, and E. It can help reduce hunger leaving the body more time to digest. Cayenne contains an active ingredient called Capsaicin, which gives cayenne its medicinal properties. This also reduces fat and relieves pain.

Almond Milk - In the immune boosting spiced berry smoothie recipe, you can use any nut milk of choice. However, there are many almond milks on the market that are fortified with Vitamin D, which can help the calcium absorption. If you make the almond milk at home, you still get the benefit of vitamin E which fights inflammation and stress in the body.
